Brief Description:  Slider Canopy Fairing 1

Today I started work on making the fairing for the slider portion of the canopy. The plans call for aluminum fairings attached with screws and rivets. Since I glued my canopy, there aren't any holes for rivets. I also opted to use fiberglass so that it could be made to match the contour exactly. I started by marking the outline of the fairing using tape. I then used a piece of tracing paper to transfer the shape of the curved pieces. I attached the tracing paper to poster board and cut out the shape. This will be the template for the fiberglass. The sides are just rectangles, so no tracing paper was needed.

I also cut two other strips for each side. One to be a backing for the side faring and the other to be a backing for the gap between the canopy aft edge and aft edge of the intended fairing where it meets the fuselage skin. The filler pieces will keep the area flat and make sure fairing starts/stops where I want it.
