I wasn't a big fan of the kit-supplied tail tie-down and it didn't work well with the RV-7 tail. I decided to make my own. I started with a 4x5x3/4" block of 6061-T6 and milled it to a T profile and then sculpted the based and tapered the center to reduce weight. I drilled and tapped it for a 3/8X16 eye-bolt. Keep in mind, I don't have an actual mill. This was all done with rotory files in the drill press and hand files to finish. The project was spread over a few days, but I put it all in one entry. I made a TON of shavings with this project and it was a PITA.
The tie-down shares to 1/4" bolts with the vertical stab and has another 2 3/16" bolts near the bottom. I don't think this part is going anywhere without taking the tail with it.
