Brief Description:  Wiring 17

Gina bought me some wiring supplies I needed as a father's day gift. Among those parts were the not-cheap connector pins used on my King Comm and Xponder. Now that I have the pins, I can put together the harness for my radio stack. I started with the Xponder since it is easy. All the Xponder needs is the connection to the alt encoder (Dynon converter in this case), power, and lighting control. I scavenged left over wire from my EFIS and EMS install so I could match up the wire colors to the dynon grey-code converter. That will make the wiring easyer to keep track off in the future. I kept the power and ground wiring from the prior installation since it was correct and in good condition

I left one end of the harness un terminated for now. That will get finished when I put everything back in the panel. I have some RG400 one order that will replace the RG58 for the antenna cable on the comm and Xponder. The RG400 is far better quality and has two shields rather than the one in RG58.

Once I finished the Xponder I went back to some airframe wiring. The gift from my wife also contained the 10awg wire I needed for the Main and Avionics Buss. The system for the avionics buss contains two relays and a diode. The power from the main buss passes through the diode to the relay for the avionics master, then to the avionics buss. In the event there is a main buss failure, the avionics can be connected directly to the bsttery buss through the second relay. The diode is to keep the avionics buss from feeding the main buss under alternate power.

There are also fly-back diodes on the relay coils to prevent voltage spikes from the coil when the relay is switched off. The switches on the panel connect one side of the coild to ground, the other is connected to the source buss. So if power to the source buss is lost, the relay will open, no point in powering a relay to do nothing. I could always add some sort of over-voltage circuit to the relay so the avionics buss would automatically disconnect if the is a
