Today I did some more work on the MP3 Player. As usual I went way overboard. I decided to fab up a case for the player. I'm not sure how the player will handle the RF from the radio stack or what RF it may produce. To minimize this issue a metal case will act as a shield. I spent quite a bit of time making the case from some 0.025 scrap. I also added a DB9 connector on the back so the unit is removeable.
I made a new filler plate for the lower portion of the radio stack and made that the faceplate for the case. The case has a removeable back plate to access the wiring if needed.
Those cheap board connectors that came installed on the MP3 player aren't made for high-vibration environments. Once I am installing the player for good I will put some RTV on the connectors so they don't vibrate loose.
All together the unit came out great, just took more time than it should have if I kept things simple.
