Brief Description:  MP3 Player Module 1

A while back I was looking for a music source to mount in the panel. Now, I have a smart phone and MP3 players that could easily be patched to the audio panel. Howerver, I wanted something panel-mounted and wire to ships power. This way I would always have some music and don't have to worry about external players. I wanted something simple and light.

I looks around quite a bit. I looked into som automotive CDplayers and digital media players. Those units are all pretty heavy and large since they have amplifiers to run speaker, just overkill for my situation. With some more Google searching, I came across DX.com which sells all kinds of interesting gadgets. One of those items was an MP3 player module. It is a very simple item that appears to be intended for installtion in other products. It has a face and control panel, but no case or wire leads, just board connectors. It also come with an IR remote. All for a grand total of $10.50 with free shipping, so I ordered one.

In the meantime I was placing an order from Mouser for some molex connectors, so I added on a few connectors to match those on the modual board.

The Mp3 player arrived the other day and I finally got around to playing with it. I wired up some power and outlet leads. The unit will accept MicroSD or USB media, it also has an external input and FM receiver. I tested the USB and SD functions. First I used a set of earbuds connected to the fron panel, the sound was great. I then wire the rear output to a jack and tested it with my old stereo Flightcomm headset. The audio was perfect and clear! These test were with a clean power supply (battery) so I don't know how good the power supply is until I put it on a noisy electrical system, but so far, so good.
