A while back I tor down the starter and started cleaning it up. I got sidetracked with other projects and didn't finish. For a while I was going to replace the starter with a lightweith unit, but with the light prop and heavy RV-7 tail I may have aft CG issues. At least until I do a weight and balance, I am going to keep the heavy prestolite starter to add weight to the nose.
Today I finished cleaning up the starter. The end plate and brush frame cleaned up really well. I also cleaned and repanited the motor housing. I cleaned the old grease out of the gear drive and replace with new. The starter came out looking pretty good. The brushes are near half-life so they will have to be replaced before too long.
For the mags, I just did a light cleaning and then masked and painted the case. The mags were overhauled not all that long ago. The points look new. I just made the outside look a bit nicer.
