Brief Description: Drill Vertical Stab to Fuselage
Made alignment marks on the F-781 and horizontal stab. Clamped F-781 in place and checked fit with vertical stab. Removed stab and double checked alignment marks. Had to use a mirror to see the lower marks in the holes on the horizontal stab. With all good I drilled the lower mounting holes to #30 and cleco'd. Rechecked reference marks then drilled upper mounting holes to #30.
Reinstall vertical stab with clamps. To measure perpendicular I used the hole in my tape measure to cleco it on to the top of the stab and put a black dot in the center of the most forward rivet on the top of the horizontal stab on left and right side. This gave consistent measurements to adjust the stab to exatly perpendicular to fuselage. Clamped F-791D in place and match drilled vertical stab, cleco'd in place. Then drilled F-791 to longerons and cleco'd. Re-check measurements then began drilling F-781 to vertical stab where I could reach and cleco'd. Removed vertical stab and F-781 to drill on bench.
