Ken Freeman came over to help rivet the turtledeck. The plan was to back rivet as we did on his RV-7. Before starting I had to remove the bracket for the pitch servo as it interefered with the plywood in the tailcone. I went in the "hole" with the gun and a couple of back rivet sets - a short one, medium length Ken had custom bent to about 10 degree angle, and a long one. Ken pulled clecos and inserted rivets, then held a large bucking bar on the outside. I back riveted from inside. Rivets went well, but it was a warm day and it got quite uncomfortable in the tail. Took a break for lunch then did some more in the afternoon. Worked until I had a few bad rivets in a row, then called it a day. Ken's 10 degree bar was the best in the tail, with occasional use of the short bar. Never used the long one.
After Ken left, I drilled and removed the bad rivets.
