Brief Description:  Spraying the interior parts with DuPont Imron

I decided to paint today, after checking the weather last night and they said no wind, no rain and 75 degrees, oh boy! I got to the hanger early and started setting up for Variprime. There was no wind, but the skies we not exactly sky blue. No matter, I’ll give the weather guys the benefit of the doubt. Primer on and looking good, but the skies are getting darker. Hmmm I started painting with the Imron and a laying down the first light dusting coat. The sky is getting darker, but the weather guy said no rain. Then off in the distance, thunder. Oh shit, time for the final coat, will I make it? The weather guy said no rain! The final coat is on and it is looking great, but now it sounds like the 4th of July with thunder sounding off crazy. I called Rafael, “can you like get here in 5 minutes; it’s going to rain and my freshly painted interior which is outside the hanger”? He made it and we moved the painting stands and table with all the freshly painted parts in place into the hangers and safety. The paint had was almost tack fee at this point and this was a good thing, but it didn’t matter because the weather guy said no rain. About 30 minutes later, the rain came, go figure, the weather guy said no rain.

Moral of the story, make a paint booth with lots of lighting, filters and good ventilation if you want a professional job with out the emotion. Although I didn’t do this, I lucked out on the interior and ended up with a nice finish. Most of the interior gets covered with the seat cushions and side panels anyway, but the frames and sill and edges show, so you want them to look good. I know I won’t be able to do a good job on big areas like the wings and fuselage without a good paint booth, so I will either make on or hire a pro to do the exterior. Tense day, but the interior painting is pretty much done. Hooray!
