Brief Description:  Mounting the rudder peddles

Today was spent on mounting the rudder pedals. I thought it may be a 4 hour job, but it took me 8. Why you ask? To start, the pedals needed to be buffed where it mounts in the nylon blocks and not wanting to mess up the powder coating, this took time and a lot of masking tape to protect from the Lite Scotch Brite wheel. The tubes were a few thousandths larger then the milled hole in the nylon blocks. Then I got in the fuselage to decide where they should be mounted and decided it would be prudent to have a few locations for adjustment. I decide after the upholstery goes in, they may need to move back a tad. At any rate, carefully drilling holes to match the blocks in multiple locations requires the dexterity of a Chinese monkey and you can’t mess up, because the rails are attached to the fuselage. I measured three times, started with little drills and worked up to size. After it was all in place, the pedals still could shift from side to side about 1/4'”, which I didn’t like. So it was off to get Les and he helped me turn some 1” diameter x 1/8” aluminum spacers to place in the nylon blocks. This stopped all lateral movement and added the some protection to the thin nylon block outside wall. Tomorrow I’m planning to build the brake pedals and see if I can get them in. I may buff them and give them a few coats of clear coat. Over the long run, I think it may look better then scratched off paint, but it is a pedal, so wear is inevitable.
