Brief Description:  Riviting the forward skin Part 2

Ed Booth flew over from Twin Lakes today to help me with the longeron rivets. It is very difficult, especially with all the wiring and tubing to get a bucking bar squarely on this line of rivets and he is an expert at getting these done. I had the easy job of handling the rivet gun, Ed had to virtually stand on his head while squeezing under the panel and man handling the various shaped bucking bars into impossible places. All said and done, the riveting went well. We had to drill out 2 bent rivets, but that is the extent of re-dos. It is amazing how far EAA’ers and Technical advisors will go to help a fellow builders and I plan to pay it forward whenever I can. Without help and guidance from these sources and building publications, it would be very difficult to have a safe and successful build. I am truly appreciative for all the help I get from these guys. A couple to notes on this panel assembly:
1) I used a hand seamer to put a slight curve in the skin to insure it would lay flat against the lonergron after riveting.
2) Rivet the two ribs and frames from the outside first, start in the middle of the panel and work out.
3) Make sure you paint the panel brow before assembly, or you need to do a lot of taping and painting upside down.
4) The 4 piece panel I used makes life sooo much easier, because they are removable for riveting, I highly recommend using one of these from Experimental Air or similar.
5) Take your time and make sure you use the proper length rivets, especially on the longerons, these are really important!
