I'm not done, but the empennage fairing is almost where I need it to be. What has worked are the nut plates in the stabilizer and the vertical fin. What I’m not happy with are the tapped holes in the longeron per the plans. I don’t want to have any chance of the screws backing out and jamming the elevator and although I can use Locktite, it just doesn’t seem adequate or aircraft worthy. My plan is to add a nut plate on the screw near the elevator horn opening and a stop nut on the most aft one. Then I will go to work on the fairing cosmetically, sanding and using Super-fill as required. I also need to add the bottom filler strip, but I haven’t really looked at that in detail yet.
Front attachment, not wrap around the leading edge locks the fairing in place
Nutplates are installed on the fin and stab, the other two screws are tapped into the longeron
The big picture, it is tight, strong and lays flat
