Brief Description: Wheel fairing layups and platenuts
I did some more fitting of the left side wheel fairing parts and started some of the fiberglass layups. I added some length to the cuff by stealing a ½” off the rear cuff and putting some glass layups on both sides. I can now get to the centerline of the wheel fairing without shifting the gear leg fairing off center. The fairing all require additional layups where the screws and rivets attach to the mounting brackets. I roughened up the interior around the screw holes with 80 grit and added 4 layers of 9 ounce glass cloth. This will add considerable strength to the mounting areas which is required because of the abuse they take on landings, especially hard ones. The white material you see in the picture is peel ply which soaks up the extra epoxy and leave a flatter/smoother surface for less sanding. This peels right off once the layups harden.
