Brief Description: Cutting main sub-panel for instruments and EFIS
I actually made two of these panels today. I’m getting good at it because practice makes perfect. I messed up the first one after I realized I forgot to layout the GRT EFIS bezel and the instrument holes became too close and just looked bad. The second one came out nice. I used a variable speed saber saw to cut out the EFIS rectangle and file to a scribe line to get it perfect. The instrument holes are done with a 2 ¼” knockout punch, it does a nice job but the holes still need finishing with a drum sander and a 1” ScotchBrite wheel on a die grinder. I also counter sunk all the screw holes and bought 6-32 black instrument s screw to mount the instruments and the sub-panel. I will powder coat this with a black crinkle coat like the engine panel. A word of warning, you must allow for the thickness of the powder coat, so make the instrument holes about 1/32” oversize.
