Brief Description:  Upper and Lower Cowl Sanding and Cable Fairing

Started sanding the lower cowl. Started with 60 grit which quickly remove the high spots, progressed to 150, 320, 500, 1000 and finally wet sanded with 2000 grit. The lower cowl took about 4 hours. Repeated the process on the upper cowl, which took about 2 hours.

Once done, decided to go ahead and attach the rudder cable fairings to the fuse. I got these fairings at Oshkosh last year from Cleveland Tools, which are already formed to cover the plastic tube that isolates the rudder cable from the fuse where it exits to be connected to the rudder horn.

Trimmed the fairings and files the edge smooth. I used a few extended sockets and a rubber mallet to open the fairings a bit, so they sit flush to the fuse. Used scotch brite bad on both, cleaned with Acetone, then primed with SEM. I decided to rivet the fairings in place using blind rivets, because if the rudder cable needs to get replaced, these will need to be removed. Drilled out one of the AN426 rivets, then used a hole duplicator to locate the lower rivet hole. Marked the two remaining then match drilled to the skin. Deburred, then riveted.
