Brief Description: Engine Prep for Start
|
|
Starting to prepare the engine for first start since the test way back several years ago in Orlando at Williamson Aviation. Removed, cleaned and re-installed the plugs. Figured out what the small holes in the engine baffle are for, it's the only way you can remove the top plugs on cylinders 3 and 4 is to use an extension through the baffle.
I have Bendix magnetos, not Slick. I know the left magneto is very likely out of whack because I had to remove the mag to install the tach pickup. The right mag should be close to 25 TDC for this engine.
However, upon checking the right mag, it's set to about 20 degrees. The left mag, well, had to remove and re-clock to get to 25 degrees. After about 1.5 hours messing with the mags, finally got both to within half a degree or so, and darn close to 25 degrees.
I want to thank Austin Edwards (A&P) for showing me the ropes for magneto timing and hanging in there when we had some trouble with the left mag.
