Brief Description:  Short Delay

After a short delay (only 7 weeks) I got back on the airplane project today.

While I was squeezing the rivets of the countersunk nutplates along the firewall flange back in October, the pain in my right elbow got to be pretty unbearable. It's been coming on for a couple of months, and I'm not sure if it was any one thing that did it, or just wear and tear from too many projects that involve hand tools. At any rate I decided I'd better have it looked at, so I went to the doctor and found that I have developed 'Tennis Elbow'.

I have probably picked up a tennis racket two or three times in my lifetime - and used it to hit a ball on a tennis court once that I can remember. But - that's what they call it. For me it's from picking heavy things up with my palm facing down (same stress as the backhand motion from tennis) and using tools that put a lot of the load on my thumb (hammering, pliers, nail guns, etc.). If you don't believe it, go pick up a Paslode framing nailer and hold it out at arm's length pointing down. Then do this a couple of thousand times.

Unfortunately, I am affllicted with the double-edged condition of knowing how to build things, and not being able to give up control of the process to someone else. I can't stand to pay someone to do something that I know I can do myself. Especially when they do a poor job - which in my experience is pretty common anymore. A small soapbox: whatever happened to trade craftsmanship and quality in this country? I think the hippies are to blame, and unions. Nowdays you pay a large price for substandard work, and it's extremely difficult to find anyone who is really good at what they do. When you do, you can never get them because they have so much work, naturally.
