Brief Description:  Installed nutplates for rear floorboard

Today I began installing the nutplates on the tabs on the fuselage that are pre-welded and pre-drilled for attching the floorboards (and other panels, etc.).

I'm using the small nutplates for 8-32 screws. I'm not going to use countersunk flathead screws. I don't see that it's necessary on this airplane, and is much more tedious, since you have to countersink the tab and dimple the floorboard panel, and possibly use countersunk washers too to protect the sheet. (At least I think dimpling would be better than countersinking the panel, since it's going to see some abuse.) But I'm not even doing that. I'm just going to use stainless round head machine screws (aka AN520 phillips "truss head" in the aviation world). I think these screws will give me the best fastening for the floorboards with the least amount of work.

So - I drilled out the tab to 3/16" for the 8-32 screw (11/64" is the minimum fractional - but I want some espace), put a flathead screw through the bottom to the tab to center the nutplate, drilled the first hole for the 3/32" rivet (#40 drill), stuck in a rivet, drilled the other hole, removed the nutplate, deburred the holes, countersunk the rivet holes, put the flathead screw through the top to hold the nutplate, put in both rivets, squeezed the rivets, removed the flathead screw - done. Now about 50 more of these...
