Brief Description:  Trim System

Finished the trim system.

I drilled the linkage arms and fit them to the ends of the torque tubes. I had to cut one of the tubes off about 1-1/2" for alignment. The trim cable control horn in the center is offset 3/4" to one side to clear the elevator control horn. I aligned the control horn and linkage arm straight up and down relative to the horizontal stabilizer - this appears to be the way the plans have it and it seems to work.

I attached the trim linkage tubes that I had bent last time. After getting everything connected, I tested the control tube and linkage for full range-of-motion operation and clearance. Everything works very well. Bob Barrows told me via Mark Goldberg that I should expet to use about 10 to 15 degrees of travel on the trim tabs for full trim. This was helpful because there was some binding in the tabs beyond that, and the linkage horn bolt would push through the fabric if you went much beyond this.

I finished the two cable ends at the control horn and tensioned the cable to what I think is adequate (I don't have a tensiometer). The system operated very smoothly and it doesn't take very much turning of the wheel to get plenty of trim tab deflection.

Although I purchased two turnbuckles, I only used one since the cable is continuous around the gear via the chain. I don't even know if I put the turnbuckle in the right place - but it works just fine for me.
