Brief Description:  Mounted Control Sticks on Fuselage

After aligning the control sticks and drilling the holes, I mounted the control stick assembly to the fuselage. Once I torqued the bolts (25 in-lbs) the control sticks were binding, and wouldn't move freely fore and aft. It appeared that the tabs on the bearing collars around the torque tube must have been flexing down or something, tightening up the collar on the torque tube itself.

I spent about 3 hours adjusting the bolts, trying thin washers under the mounting tabs to raise the center of the collar off the mounts, slightly filing the bolt holes and other things - but it still tightened up when I torque the bolts. I finally checked the horizontal alignment of the mounts welded on the fuselage, and found that the pilot's side mount was tilted at about a 3 or 4 degree angle to the horizontal tubes. So, this was causing the bearing collar to rock over and bind when the mounting bolts were torqued. I simply took a crescent wrench and bent the collar's tabs on that side until the binding went away. If I had seen this earlier, I would have spent less time adjusting the bolt positions.

Now, the control sticks are free and smooth in their movement.
