Brief Description: Left Elevator Rib and Rear Spar Installation
I riveted the elevator left top skin to the left rear spar, ribs, and trim tab hinge. The ribs were back riveted using my rivet gun and back rivet plate. The rear spar and trim tab hinge were riveted using a rivet squeezer. The remaining holes for the skin and rear spar were riveted using a special bucking bar and the rivet gun.
The special bucking bar was purchased from Cleaveland Tools. It's shaped to fit under the skin at the trailing edge with the forward end cut at an angle needed to set the rivet parallel to the angle of the rear spar. Downward pressure is applied to the aft end of the bucking bar while bucking the rivet with the rivet gun. It worked great!
