Brief Description: Elevator Close-out Tabs and Horns
With the left and right elevators temporarily clecoed together, I worked on the close-out tabs and elevator horns. I match-drilled #30 the three holes for the close-out tabs. The two forward holes also include the holes in the shear clip.
I clecoed the elevator horns to the left and right elevators and final-drilled #30 all the holes. There are twelve holes for each horn, six where the horn contacts the elevator front spar and six where it contacts the root rib.
The elevator trailing edge is longer than needed and has to be trimmed to the correct length. Also, the inboard sides are angled. I clecoed the trailing edge to the left and right elevators and marked the edges with a sharpie pen. After removing the trailing edge, it was an easy job for my band saw to cut the left and right trailing edges to the correct length and angle. I deburred the edges that were cut.
The plans call for the outboard side of the trailing edges to be modified to match the trailing edge thickness of the elevator tip fairings. I used my belt sander to do this. Approximately 1 inch of the outboard side of the left and right trailing edges were reduced slightly in thickness.
