Brief Description: Begin installling Skybolt system
Pulled out Skybolt cowling attachment system and re-read all the directions. Determined the final positioning of the lower cowling in order to position the centerline of the attachments for the sides along the split line of the upper cowl and lower cowl. Positioned the hole of the first flange on the right side right at the centerline and used a spring clamp to hold in place. Positioned the second flange above the first one and clamped, on so on until I got to the top centerline of the firewall. Started on the left side just like the first and positioned and clamped all the flanges until reaching the top centerline. To get the spacing correct I had to trim the end of several of the top middle flanges until I got the spacing symmetrical and evenly spaced. I then drilled all the holes through the flanges and clecoed in place as I went. Once all the holes were drilled I removed all the flanges and deburred and countersunk as necessary. I began riveting from the bottom left up and across the firewall using the hand squeezer. As I went along I also used a C clamp to get things tightened up as well as possible because of the slight fluting on the firewall flanges. Got a little over half done with the riveting before stopping for the day.
