Brief Description:  Re-wired the radio and stick grip

What a day. Had to re-wire the radio and the stick grips. First I located where I wanted the headphone jacks and settled for on the panel way to the outside so they would stay close to the sides when plugged in. Drilled all the holes after measuring and screwed in the jacks. Worked out pretty nicely. I then decided to re-wire the co-pilot stick grip first which only has the PTT in it. I determined the path for the wires from the headphone jack and routed accordingly. I had to unwrap all of the wire spiral wrap protection which was a pain. I cut the PTT wires from the stick which were connected to the pilot side stick originally and stripped and crimped on the connectors to all wires. Tested the radio and it transmitted when the PTT was pressed. Yahoo! I rewrapped all the spiral wrap and zip tied the wiring to structure as I had previously and moved over to the pilot side.

Spent a LOT of time determining where all 9 wires coming out of the grip were routed. Had to cut a lo of zip ties all the way through the wiring bundles to determine accurately every wires origin and destination. Lesson learned, you cannot have enough labels on wiring. Once I determined all the routings I then had to figure out how to re-wire the grip to have the PTC and PTT work. I opened up the stick grip to expose all the wiring. Once I had a plan I began to use the soldering iron to remove wires and/or move them to new locations. It was difficult because I had to solder in the cockpit. I soldered wires for the PTC on the left upper momentary switch that is opposite the AP disconnect switch. I turned to the PTT and forunately there was one extra wire gonig through the grip which I could use on one side of the swtich. However I had to run one new 22ga wire up the stick and grip to solder onto the other terminal of the PTT switch. Once I had all that done I reattached the grip parts and replaced on the stick. I made the PTT wires connections as I had on the co-pilot side and rewrapped all wiring and reattached to struc
