Just to complete the VS-808PP lightening exercise, I performed this spot-priming procedure:
1) Scotch pad until everythings evenly burnished. 2) Wash thoroughly with dishwashing soap until water sheets off of the surface. 3) Wipe down with SW R7K158 cleaner. 4) Spray 2 light coats of SW 988 self-etching primer.
This seems to be a popular method judging from forum threads. I've heard recommendations all the way from no priming whatsoever to the full alodine/zinc chromate/2part epoxy approach, so will keep an open mind.
