The original elevator trim hinge was held together with a straight pin. while this worked very well, I noticed that if the pin somehow worked it's was out, either inboard or outboard, it would jam against the elevator of the rudder. I had noticed that some RV's I had seen had adapted the hinge so it could be saftied in place. I removed the hinge pin and replaced it with another that included about 2" extra length which I bent to a position where it could be safty wired to the horizontal stabilizer.
Most of the construction steps that require the empenage to be in place have been completed, so I removed the horizontal and vertical stabilizers. Hopefully the next time these go on the fuselage it will be for the final assembly.
