Brief Description:  Adjusted the Aileron Control Push Rods

I spent some time adjusting the control rods that connect the control sticks to the aileron bell crank in the wings. You want the ailerons to be in the neutral position when the control sticks are in the neutral position. This is done by securing the bell crank in neutral then adjusting the length of the control rod by screwing the rod end bearing into or out of the control rod until the control sticks are also neutral. This is easy enough to do, just takes some time to make the adjustments.

When done one safety check is to insure that each rod end bearing is screwed at least half way into the pushrod. This way if the control rod jam nut ever come loose, the control rod can't back out far enough to become disengaged. When I checked this my rod ends were just barely 1/2 way in. It probably wouldn't be a problem but to be sure I decided to install two jam nuts onto the rod end bearings of the aileron control rods. This would prevent the control rod ever becoming disengaged as it can only move about 3/8th of an inch on the threads.

I called Van's to check this out and confirmed this as an acceptable option. Van's Tech Support told me that adding a second jam nut would be fine and is a good way to prevent any possible "backing out" of the control push rod.
