Van's had issued a Service Bulletin regarding the fuel pickup inside of the fuel tanks. Apparently the bracket could rotate causing the fuel pickup to rotate away from the low point in the fuel tank and lead to fuel starvation. The service bulletin has you remove the fuel tank access, and modify the bracket by installing safety wire which would prevent the rotation.
I got around to getting this done, as it is a messy job dealing with the tank sealant. Fortunately my wings were not yet installed on the aircraft and the job is relatively easy.
I started by removing the original tank access plate and spend a long time removing all of the tank sealant. I repeated this on both wing tanks.
