Using a sheet of Aluminum flashing material, I cut and shaped a removable cover that will go in front of the windshield and allow access to the back side of the instrument panel. I didn’t want to have a difficult time getting to the back of the panel. I bent a length of ½” Al tubing to a curve that matched the front edge of the cover, mitered the ends and installed it using gussets like those used by QCU. I also added a longitudinal centered brace of ½” tube to keep the fabric tightening from distorting its shape. It is attached via Rivnuts and 6-32 machine screws. I may later re-fabricate this panel using .025 2024T3 as the flashing, while adequate would not take much pressure if someone leaned on it. I can fabricate it quickly using the original as a template.
