Brief Description:  Began with attachment of right wing tip

We decided to use piano hinge to attach the wing tips. The dimpling of the wing skin for #8 screws looks bad and by using the piano hinge method will really make this look more professional. We started by cuting the wing tip down to butt directly to the wing. The we used MS20257-P4 hinge material that is 1.5" wide. It was attached to the wing with a spacer of .042 2024 strips to get the hinge further into the tip to accomodate the thickness of the wing tip material. All was match drilled, the wing dimpled for an AN3-4 rivet and the strip was countersunk to accept the dimple. After installing the hinge to the wing with the 3-4 soft rivets, we attached the other side of the hinge, created a temporary rib spacer from foam to push the hinge out, and then slid the tip over the hinge material and match drilled the tip to the other hinge piece. The Nav antenna was installed in the wing tip and the whole assembly was riveted and glued using epoxy with structural filler.
