Brief Description:  Prepare Left Fuel Tank for Assembly

Well another long day without a lot to show for it in terms of assemblies. I totaled up the week I've been off and I got in 63 hours of work on the airplane and got a lot done. Today I started the final prep for assembling the fuel tanks. First I match drilled both fuel tank drain flanges (photo #1). Then I fabricated and drilled some cover plates for the tooling holes in both tank inboard ribs (photo #2). The plans give you the option of a large rivet or cover plates, and since I don't have any rivets that big, well..... the cover plates will work. Finally, I started removing the blue film and dimpling the fuel tank skins (photo #3). Got the left skin complete and ready to go. Will start on the right tank skin in a week when I get back. Also by then, my fly cutter, flaring tool, tubing bender, safety wire pliers, crimper, wire stripper, nutplate jig, new #40 bits, my landing/taxi lights, some new tank cover plates, a flop tube, tie down rings, and one more capacitance type fuel level system should have all arrived in the mail. It will be like Christmas or my birthday (oh yeah, some of this was from my wife for my birthday - Thanks Honey!)
