Brief Description:  Rivet Stiffeners

Stiffeners and end ribs back riveted to the top and bottom skins. Unfortunately, later in the session I found out I didn't dimple the skin holes at the spar on each end rib so I'll have to drill out the end rib rivets to get access to those holes.

The small tungsten bucking bar and extended rivet set arrived on Friday. I finished riveting the spar to end rib without further problems. I briefly considered drilling out the semi-clenched rivet from the previous session, but after thinking it through I decided it was riskier to attempt to drill it out due to its cramped location. I was able to finish setting that rivet and while not perfect it was acceptable.

Riveted the A-1008-1 doubler to the spar. Trimmed the trailing edge wedge to fit the length of aileron and final drilled #40 holes. This is where the wheels fell off the bus today.

Turns out that instead of drilling the holes perpendicular to the midline of the cross-section of the TE, I angled the drill in the opposite direction. So instead of a 6 degree angle canted forward I had a 6 degree aft cant. The result was the centerline of the holes I drilled rather than being 90 to the midline it was 78 degrees (6 x 2 = 12 then 90 - 12 = 78). The holes on the top skin at the trailing edge are relatively unaffected, but the bottom skin holes are oblonged.

I definately need a new wedge, but I'm unsure if I can save the bottom skin or not. I'll call Vans in the morning before I order new parts. Hopefully it'll only be the wedge I need to replace.
