Brief Description:  Dimple Skins and Start Riveting

Jay arrived around 11:45 and we started to dimple the skin. It took about an hour and a half to finish both skins.

The next step was to assemble the ribs and access panel doubler onto the LH LE. We had a little trouble getting the ribs to fit, but after a little jiggling and repositioning everything fit nicely. There were a couple of areas where the rib flange wouldn't set flat on the skin. That appeared to be due to the flanges in a local area not being bent 90 degrees to the web. Fortunately, only one rib had an issue significant enough to warrent removal and adjusting the flange.

These issues took longer than expected and we were running out of daylight. We managed to get only the outboard rib riveted before we had to stop for the day. The good thing was we got into a good rhythm and all of the rivets save one were perfect. I don't think I can do this riveting solo because the edges are fairly deep and I don't have long enough arms to reach the most forward rivets and still get a good set on the rivets.

Jay will be back next week to help finish the riveting. The ailerons are almost done curing so I'll probably finish the TE riveting tomorrow.

We work well as a riveting team. The quality of these rivets was outstanding.
