Brief Description:  Setting up rudder alignment fixture

First I put in the spar subassembly in place and set a number of clecos. It's at this stage that you can introduce some twist into the rudder if the two aft corners and the hinge line are not kept in the same plane.

I set up the rudder alignment fixture and used my two laser levels to check the planer alignment. A bit of shimming on the lower hinge support got the hinges set and the trailing edge supports were adjusted fore and aft to get the corners in plane. It couldn't have been easier and I'm happy I spent the time making the fixture.

If anybody is interested in this setup I created some Solidworks drawings with the hinge fixture parts. Let me know and I can send you a PDF of the drawings.
