Brief Description: Mobile power tools station, Part II
I finished getting the legs and lower shelf onto the table top subassembly. When I tried to attach the casters I had the problem of the screws holding the casters to the bottom of the legs would interfer with the wood screws I used to hold the table together. I decided to just leave out whatever caster screws were interfering. Hey it seems to work and it's not like I'm going to really abuse this table.
I also put a 2 gang box on the underside of the table and all the tools plug into it. I cut the end off of a 25 ft. extension cord (14 gauge wire, medium duty) and wired it into the gang box. I used a hole saw to cut a 2 in. hole in the top of the table and ran all the tool plugs thru it to the gang box. Now I just have one plug to worry about for all tools.
If you're interested in building this table here's the parts list. Note that the final dimensions for the table top drove a lot of the 2 X 4 dimensions. If you need to adjust the table top size for your tools be sure to work out new dimensions for all the 2 X 4's.
1 sheet sanded plywood 0.75 in. thick X 33 in X 34 in. (table top) 1 sheet plywood 0.5 in thick 21 in. X 30 in. (lower shelf) (5) 2 in. X 4 in. X 8 ft. boards cut as follows: (2) 31 in, & (3) 27 in. for the table top base (4) 29.8 in for the legs (4) 21.9 in. for the leg doublers (2) 28 in. & (2) 27 in. for the bottom shelf support (4) Caster wheels (I used Hount 3 in. wheels P/N PB003. Comes in a set of 4 for about $30)
These casters and dimensions give me a final table height the same as the EAA workbenches (33.75 in).
