Canopy hinge supports came with the kit. They were dry fitted with hinges and canopy located and secured in place to determine location for mounting holes, as well as define area for bonding (see Picture 1). To simulate adhesive bondline, five (5) layers of duct tape where placed on support bonding surfaces during fitting. Once aligned, matting surfaces were sanded and then cleaned with Acetone. Supports were bonded in place with mixture of Jeffco resin and flox. During cure, hinges and canopy were used to hold supports in alignment.
Next, 8 BID tape lay up was made in aft top area of inner stiffener (picture 2). This is a new method Lancair build shop uses to stiffen this area of the canopy in lieu of previous foam core bonding.
Once lay up was cured, canopy was bonded in place with EA9360 and flox mixture. Series of clamping devices and shot bags were used to hold canopy in place during cure as well as to provide required pressure.
