Brief Description:  Placing top and bottom ribs

Manual Reference Step 20

Pic. 1. Inserting a top rib which has black rear contour fitting. Bottom ribs have white rear contour fittings. I did grind some of the rear contour fittings but if another person pushes the ribs up/down as they are inserted into the pocket then grinding the fittings may not necessary. The ribs should be inserted before the fabric is pulled into its final position.

Pages 2-46 and 2-47 describe the tightening process using the sing tensioning nut WI-104.
Caution Here: As described earlier, theTensioning Rib Standoff Assembly (WI-103) must be parallel to the front/rear spars before you start to tighten the nut (WI-104). The long bolt of the Standoff Assembly is harder than the aluminum Root Compression tube (WI-003) and pieces of aluminum will begin to accumulate on the threads of the long bolt and begin to gaul the threads of the tightening nut (WI-104). If you continue to torque the nut it may shear the long bolt and you will be starting again. I know someone who did this... If the nut is not turning freely consider backing the nut off on both sides then oiling the shaft to remove the aluminum and then tightening again. Use a rag to prevent the oil from dripping onto the wing fabric.

Pic 3 Shows the result of an over torqued nut and the separation made a loud "bang" in the process. Now I know where the phrase "that galls me" came from. Left the structure as is then ordered part from Lockwood. When it arrives I will remove the bottom fabric and see if I can replace the bolt without removing the entire fabric edge from the fish.
