I think I have my head around the construction process and methods used for the rudder, so I made a start on the stiffeners, trimming them as per vans instructions.
I cut the stiffeners into their rough lengths, then I trimmed the stiffeners with the snips greater than the finish side, followed by the vixen vile to get the shape right and remove the shear marks. I then used the double-sided deburring tool to take the sharp edge off the stiffeners. This was then finished up with the scotch-brite wheel on the bench grinder to get a mirror finish on all edges.
They were then cleco’d emplace, was quite a monotonous job to get them all done, but satisfying to see the inside of the rudder take shape and gain rigidity. Tomorrow I will edge debur the skins, and the skeleton, match drill the skins and stiffeners, then mark and disassemble and dimple where required.
I wouldn’t mind some primer! I think the order has shipped from aircraft spruce.
