Brief Description: VS Rear spar assembly
|
|
Had a few deliveries today, I received my pneumatic rivet squeezer from Cleveland Tools, as well as my close quarters dimpling kit. I couldn’t resist the urge to set up the tools, and squeezed around 30 rivets on my test piece, of different sizes and head shapes. I became reasonably comfortable with setting it up and running the squeezer, so I decided to make a start on the vertical stab rear spar.
Overall very happy with the job it did, very nice and repeatable results along the length of the spar, there are two rivets I want to replace, as didn’t have my grip/stance sorted as well as properly supporting the work piece. Additionally, I could no reach into the corners of the lower rudder bracket to squeeze the rivets, so will have to traditionally buck these rivets. I think I will have to get onto my local tech councillor sooner rather than later for a progress inspection and catch up, just to make sure I am on the right path.
Feels great to actually firm up the assembly, and see how rigid it is with all the clecos removed, and surprisingly light!
I also received the parts for the HS that I messed up last week, only six days between clicking buy and them turning up on my front door. Very happy with that!
