Brief Description:  Aileron Servo Wiring at Wing Tip End

So I received most of my electrical wiring inventory recently and I have been waiting for it to complete wiring up the aileron servo. That way I can close up the left aileron and start fitting the control surfaces to the wing. I had a different D Sub crimping tool but I realized it was for machined d-sub pins, not crimp d-sub pins. A quick trip to Radio Shack and I had a relatively inexpensive crimp tool. Practiced on a couple pins and then went to work. How do you strip the tefzel coating on the 5 wire servo cable without damaging the 5 wires inside? Besides, the stuff is as slippery as ice so its hard to hold onto. I got it after a while. You take your time is the answer. Start with a sharp razor knife at the end and gingerly slice open a 1/4 inch of the sheathing. Pick at it with the end of the razor cutter in reverse (sharp edge facing up) and slowly slice it, pull it apart a little, slice it, pull it apart, etc. You can turn the blade around and slice downwards into the sheathing, but you must take care to not cut any of the 5 wires. Also, don't go bending hard, twisting hard or pulling on those 5 wires. They are 26AWG and you can almost pull them apart if you aren't careful.
Strip about 1/8 or 3/16 off the end. Put the D-Sub pin into the crimp tool and sort of close up the tool to push the pin downwards into the tool groove enough to hold it snug. Push too much and you can't fit the wire in. Insert wire and push the wire sheathing in only far enough to catch the closest crimp. The 2nd crimp on the pins (closest to the actual pin) is meant to secure the actual wire. Squeeze tight and the ends of the crimps wrap around and fold inward to push into the sheathing and the into the wire to secure it. Carefully remove the pin by pushing it back up out of the groove in the tool by hand and inspect the crimps. I love the wire stripper from Ideal. More later.
