Brief Description:  Gear Towers #2

-Finished edge deburring all the gear tower parts

-Clecoed everything together. It sure is fun seing stuff go together.

-Marked the lines on the gearbox web where I will cut them for the modification. A popular modification is to make the gear towers more accessable versus trying to work through the small lightning holes. There are landing gear bolts that need torqued and checked along with numerous things that pass through them. Having removable covers attached with screws instead of rivets will greatly ease future maintenance. There are several methods; cut a bigger hole, cut a bigger hole and put a cover plate on with flush screws, or replace the rivets with flush screws, I am going for the latter and copied Brent Owen's modification (who copied it from Scott Chastain's modification on his RV-8 - see photo #3).

-Still need to drill everything IAW the instructions, then I'll take it apart and start the modification

-Have I said lately how much fun this is?!?!?

-Leaving for Oshkosh in 5 days....can't wait!!!!
