Brief Description:  Seat Floors #1 (Floor Mod)

On the advice of Bruce "FM" Edwards, fellow RV-8 builder/flyer here at Langley, I decided to start the mod to make all (the fwd floors are already removable) of the cockpit floor skins removable now while access is wide open (versus later after fuselage riveting). I had already decided I was going to do this mod and had purchased all the necessary hardware while at Oshkosh LAST year. Speaking of hardware, I purchased the NAS style rivets for the nutplates with the much smaller countersink head, requiring much less countersking. Makes it quite a bit easier, and after all, they're just holding nutplates. I know there's a big argument about the necessity of this mod, but I like the idea of being able to remove screws to get under the floor versus drilling out pop rivets. I for one plan on inspecting under there every annual condition check. So the mod entails locating and drilling all the necessary holes for screws and nutplates....lots of them....84 to be exact.

- Cleco'd the floor skins to the seat ribs
- Match drilled what were all the rivet holes to size #19 for #8 screws
- Deburred the screw holes in the floors and seat ribs
- Using a nutplate jig, I located and drilled all the #40 holes for nutplate rivets
- Installed all the nutplates except for those on the outboard ribs. I left those open for now because if the nutplates were installed they would be in the way of riveting the mid side skins on. Once I have the skins riveted on, it will now be easy to rivet the nutplates since the holes are already drilled.

This mod took a better part of day, cost a little in hardware, and maybe added a little weight, but I feel it was worth it!
