Brief Description: Left Fuel Tank #12 - Riveted first 2 tank ribs
|
|
After letting it set up for about 40 hours, I riveted the first two ribs.
I would pull a few clekos, clean up the skin dimples with MEK, swirl a dallop of sealant into the dimple using a cut off q-tip, insert the rivet, set it, clean up the tools and skin and move onto the next. It was somewhat time consuming at first, but I eventually got effecient with all the steps and then starting getting 2 and 3 rivets ready at a time before bucking, and the process got a little quicker.
This method is great to work with, I can imagine that trying to rivet it all while it's still gooey would be quite messy.
After getting the ribs all riveted, I mixed up some more sealant and carefully covered all the shop heads of all the rivets, then removed, cleaned, buttered-up, and re-clekoed the 3rd rib. I figured during the week, I need to do only 1 rib at a time since I don't get extended periods to work in the shop on weeknights.
