Brief Description: Saying Goodbye

It is with much sorrow and sadness that we had to say goodbye to our dear and loyal friend, Jake. Jake had been dealing with congestive heart failure for a couple years now, and in the recent past, the condition had worsened to the point of too much suffering. Even the medication didn't seem to be helping much here recently. It was difficult to watch Jake, who for his entire life was so full of energy and would want to play until the cows came home, not be able to fetch his beloved toy or stick without nearly collapsing from lack of breath. I cannot imagine ever having another dog as smart or as well behaved as Jake, as those of you who knew him would probably agree. For 12 wonderful years he blessed our lives with unbounded loyalty and love. I was always amazed and thankful for his acceptance of transition when Payden was born. For 8 years Jake was the only child, and believe me, he was one spoiled child. Once the boys were born, he naturally didn't receive the attention he was accustomed too, but he accepted this fact with much grace and maturity. It was definitely one of the hardest decisions I've ever made to end the suffering and allow Jake to pass with some dignity. As emotional a moment it was, and remains, for me, I'm glad I chose to be with him in end...scratching his ears...looking in his eyes as they faded....and praying beyond hope that he understands and knows how much he was loved, and how much he will be missed... ....Goodbye, Jakie...
