Brief Description:  Reinforce Firewall Flange

Because I'm hanging a Titan 340 on the nose, the firewall flange needs to be strengthened to handle the horsepower. There are two recommended ways to do this. The first is to flox on steel gussets which are strong and heavy. The second is to epoxy carbon fiber gussets on which are strong and lightweight. I choose carbon fiber which comes in a roll. Step one is to cut the triangular gussets from the roll. Scissors worked ok, but not great. The CF slides when being handled which made making accurate cuts difficult. A paper cutter worked great once a strip of approximate length was cut with scissors. Nick said to add 8 layers to each corner where the motor mount bolts penetrate the flange and to tie the gussets into the existing CF strips already in the fuselage.

Unfortunately, I did not take pictures of the cutting process.

Once the gussets were cut, I removed the flute tubes to prepare for the installation.
