Brief Description:  Install main gear

The spar box and the gear sockets have been upgraded since the builder's manual were written, so a bit of improvising is necessary here. Don't worry, Honey, I'm confident these alterations were necessary and correct.

First, if you drill the leg hole where the manual says, you will miss the socket because of the spar box changes. The key is that the hole in the belly lines up with the socket in the spar box. This is easy enough because the tube for the legs in the spar box is very near the spar opening in the wing root. You can almost guess and hit the hole, but Dave and I didn't guess. We measured several times to make sure the hole we drilled would be inside the sleve in the spar box and when we finally drilled it, it was.

As a woodworker, I had a router bit that would follow the inside curve of the tube. That would do it if the legs went straight down, but they don't. So, a bit of finish sanding on the outside edges let the legs slide in smoothly.

This was really exciting. Once it's on its wheels, it will look soooo much cooler and be much more mobile. No more scooting the sawhorse stand.
