Brief Description:  Page 6-1 Paragraph 10 Fabricate two HS-909 shims

Paragraph 10 -

Fabricate two HS-909 shims from AS3-040 material. Match drill these shims to the aft side of the front spar at the most inboard main rib locations. The HS-909 shims are installed later between the front flanges of the most inboard HS-904 Main ribs and the front spar.

My notes:

This took some time due to the fact that I had to make a peice of wood block that would fit inside the spar. I made three just to have some extra.

Basicly what I did was use the rib as a template and trace the flange of the rib on the AS3-040 material and cut it with a jig saw.

Once you have your two spacers in hand the next challenge is to line the spacers up with the holes in the spar and since the holes are on the bottom of where the spacers go and you can't see through the spacer to align up the holes. So I used the top and bottom #40 spar flange holes or outside (where the skin goes) pre-drilled holes as a guide (Note: The outside spar flange holes are not on center with the holes in the center of the spar. However, this is a good thing because the holes in the flanges on the ribs are not on center too. It worked perfectly!

Once I had the spacers on center with the top and bottom #40 spar flange holes I used masking tape to hold them in place. Then I took my wood block wich was cut to fit inside the rib and one on the oposit side of the spar and C clamped them together sandwiching the spacer to the spar. Note: the wood will have to be long enough to off set them so you can see the holes in the spar that you will use as a drill guide.
