Brief Description:  AA 185--Aileron Bell Cranks

Today I finally got back to working on the plane. I worked on completing AA 185, installing spacers in the aileron bell crank assembly to move the spindle up 1/8".It was very simple to do on the bellcrank assembly that is not installed in a wing. Installing it in the assembled wing was a lot of work.
After looking over the job I decided I would have to remove the wing bottom skin. It was completly fit and clecoed, ready to rivet in place but luckly no rivets had to be drilled out. After removing all Clecos, I lifted the skin over the flap and aileron hinges and set it aside. I then cut the safety wire on the bellcrank bolts and removed the bolts. The spacer is 1/8" thick so I used a 1/8" longer bolt to make sure the threads were fully engaged. On reassembly I used blue locktite on all bolt threads an installed new safety wire on the bolts holding the bell crank in place. I also installed the new aileron cable guides on the flap bell cranks. This was much easier with the bottom skin off the wing. I laid the bottom skin back on the wing and slipped it over the hinge arms.
