The plans say the pre-cast Van's weights aren't heavy enough for the Rocket, so with some guidance from the OEM, I decided to add an additional weight to the top of the rudder horn before closing out the upper fairing.
I needed lead ... and recalled a 6m length of rusty lead-lined telephone cable that I had discovered while walking the dog. The cable has about 200 copper wires, paper insulated, then paper-wrapped, then lead wrapped, then tar string wrapped and spiral bound with two layers of overlapped strip steel. Mapp gas made easy work of melting out enough lead to make a few weights.
Now that some of the Glenbrook heritage has been recycled into the Rocket, perhaps it's time for 200 elderly locals to upgrade from the Model # 1 bakelite wall phone to an iPhone 5 :-)
