Brief Description:  05 - Rudder top fairing

Rudder top fairing

I trimmed the upper fairing, match drilled, deburred, countersunk, blind-riveted centering tabs at the rear, sliced the spine open and then installed a carbon fibre tab with epoxy and Aerosil. The tab isn't essential, but the rudder fairing doesn't come with an extension to match the trailing edge in the same way the elevator fairings do, so I made it match. Later I'll put UHMW tape on the rudder trailing edge to protect it while I file down the fairing to the same profile.

I cleco'd the fairing in place with epoxy and Aerosil up front where the profile of the fairing doesn't match the rudder horn (another known issue with the kit). When I am sure no more weight is needed inside the horn, I'll button this up with blind rivets and build up the front surface until this area can be squared off properly.
